I’ve been a little busy lately…
I’m calling it “too busy to write” but that’s not really true, now is it?
Ok… fine… I could’ve been writing, but honestly, I have been kinda busy.
I’m participating in the Printer’s Row Lit Fest in downtown Chicago this coming Saturday. I’ll be under the big Chicago Writer’s Association tent (tent ‘K’) with a few other authors meeting fans (OMG, I have fans!), signing books, answering questions, etc. I’m really looking forward to it. Think I should wear a feather boa and a tiara?
I had to order more books (one arrived bound upside-down, and another is missing the title page), and since they’re award-winning I had to apply award stickers. My cousin-god daughter-sister-friend sent me an embosser as a cool gift, so I also stamped all of the title pages. I thought about pre-signing them, but that seems so impersonal.
I’ve got SWAG! I know… I know… overkill… I’m doin’ too much (as my kids say). I’ve got mugs and tote bags and hand-decorated bookmarks with charms that match the book covers. I also have die-cut stickers and plain bookmarks too… a little something for everyone. People have asked, but I’m only selling books. The swag is to give away. I’ve been decorating bookmarks and making table signs and laying out banners and table runners, and basically just doin’ the most (my kids say that, too).
…and then… I’ve got another bookfair in Iowa in October! Woohoo!
This summer, much to my suprise and utter delight, Mary Not Broken has developed a following (400+ ratings and reviews), and I’ve been invited to sit in on a few bookclub meetings. I’m always flattered to be asked, and I love answering their questions. Readers often want to know how much is autobiographical. Honestly, not much. There are one or two incidents in the book that happened in my life, but most other things are based on the experiences of women I know. I can say that the bonus content is all mine.
Aaand about the writing…
My characters seem to be on strike right now. They’re not talking to me. I’ve had people sitting on a bus, and lying on a gurney, and wandering around Walmart for months. This is the book that I promised some agents would be in developmental editing by the end of the summer… so technically I’ve got about three weeks ‘til the solstice and the official end of summer.
But yeah… I got nothin’.
I’ll have another update after this Saturday.
E’ y’all later!
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
All so exciting!
