I admit I almost panicked. I’ve been so focused on my existing books (ebooks, paperbacks, audio books, swag, launches, etc.) all because I’ve been feeling totally uninspired. It’s been at least six months since I’ve written seriously.
My new book was stalled… and I mean frozen… not moving… nothing happening.
Meanwhile, my co-author was happily plugging along (I think) writing her parts of the story.
Well… good news! My characters have finally started talking to me and I’ve been writing… not a whole lot, but a couple of chapters are written and I have another one in mind.
This book has nothing to do with Glory or Mary or their family or friends. It’s not historical in any way. It’s dystopian, set in the not-to-distant future where women’s rights have been deeply eroded. Know what’s funny/not funny? The events in this dystopian story seem to keep happening now and by the time this book is published, our dystopian future tale will probably be considered contemporary and “ripped from today’s headlines.”
We have a working title, and the book has the stories of several characters, all tied together by a similar over-arching theme. We haven’t quite figured out the fine details of how to tie them all together yet, but that’s what developmental editors are for. Hopefully, we’ll be ready for that step by the end of the summer.
Here’s the intimidating part… not only is my small-press publisher waiting for this book, but there are two agents who think they could sell this book to a Big-5 publisher too!
Wish us luck!
Anyway, all three of my ebooks are free on Kindle Unlimited, and you can listen to them free on Audible with a 30-day free trial. You can also purchase the audio books on Spotify or wherever you get your audio books.
SPOILER ALERT: GLORY BISHOP was the first book written in the series, then GLORY UNBOUND and finally MARY NOT BROKEN. See, it took writing GB and GU to get Mary to start telling me her story. It’s like after the first two books, she needed to explain herself… to tell her own story in her own words. People have been reading/listening to MNB first and then feeling some kinda way about GB and GU. MNB can be enjoyed as a stand-alone (one reviewer liked MNB so much, they’re refusing to read GB and GU because of the character evolution of Mary), but I really think GLORY BISHOP should go first.
Thanks for following me! Happy Spring!
Amazing! So excited for you and glad your characters are making themselves known!
Am absolutely loving the bits of your WIP that you've shared with us thus far. Really, really great. And bravo, re the agents!
